Orono Wrestling

Team Events

Being part of Orono Wrestling means more than just time on the mat — we’re a family. Throughout the year, we come together for team events that build friendships and memories beyond competition. From marching in the Corn Days Parade and celebrating at Buckhorn Days, to beach games and swimming at Baker Park, there’s always fun off the mat. We honor our tradition with Alumni Nights, enjoy team bonding during out-of-town tournaments and hotel stays, and wrap up the season with our banquet celebrations. Plus, events like our Cornhole Fundraiser bring athletes, families, and the community together to support the program. At Orono Wrestling, it's not just about wrestling — it’s about belonging to something bigger.

Buckhorn Days

JULY 12 | LONG LAKE, MN

Orono Wrestling is rolling up its sleeves and firing up the grill to sell fresh roasted corn at Long Lake Buckhorn Days—one of our favorite city gatherings by the lake! This event not only helps support our program, but also brings our wrestlers, families, and coaches together to give back to the community. Serving up hot, buttery corn, we raise funds for equipment, travel, and team activities while having a great time connecting with locals and representing Spartan pride. It’s a fun way for the team to work together off the mat, build camaraderie, and keep our program growing strong!

Corn Days Parade

AUGUST 9 | ORONO, MN

The Orono Corn Days Parade is a proud tradition for our wrestling program, where athletes, coaches, and families come together to represent Orono Wrestling in the heart of our community. Each year, the team walks in the parade, showing off our Spartan pride and celebrating the legacy of hard work, dedication, and teamwork that defines our program. It’s more than just a stroll down the parade route — it’s a chance to honor tradition, connect with supporters, and welcome new faces to the Orono Wrestling family. Being part of Corn Days reminds us that we’re not just a team on the mat, but an important part of the community we represent.

Baker's Park Team Party

AUGUST 24 | MAPLE PLAIN, MN

Our annual Team Party at Baker’s Park is a highlight of the season, bringing wrestlers, coaches, and families together for a day of fun, relaxation, and team bonding. After all the hard work on the mat, it’s the perfect chance to unwind with swimming, beach games, and food from our favorite food truck Al Chile. Whether it's a game of frisbee, tossing a football, or just hanging out by the water, the Baker’s Park party celebrates the friendships and family atmosphere that make Orono Wrestling special. End of Year Celebrations

MS/HS - TENTATIVE MARCH 9 | HAMEL COMMUNITY CENTER

The Orono High School Wrestling End-of-Year Banquet is a yearly tradition where wrestlers, families, and coaches come together to celebrate the season's hard work, dedication, and achievements. Held at the Hamel Community Center, the banquet features dinner, awards, and time to reflect on memorable moments both on and off the mat. A highlight of the evening is the recognition of our athletes’ growth, commitment, and contributions to the program. This year, the team is adding a special touch by making it a semi-formal event, with many of the kids dressing up in suits to mark the occasion. The night also includes a special 6th Grade Graduation Ceremony, welcoming our youth wrestlers as they prepare to join the middle school team.

YOUTH - JANUARY 30 | DOUBLETREE BLOOMINGTON

The youth wrestlers wrap up the regular season with a fun-filled hotel pool party, celebrating their hard work and accomplishments. For families who want to keep the fun going, rooms are available to book an overnight stay at Doubletree Bloomington South and enjoy more time together after the season’s end. This event highlights the camaraderie, tradition, and family spirit that make Orono Wrestling more than just a sport.

Out of Town Hotel Stays

Out-of-town tournaments are a key part of the Orono Wrestling experience, giving athletes the chance to compete at a higher level while building lasting memories with teammates. The High School Team Individual Qualifiers travel to St. Paul in March for the prestigious HS State Tournament, a highlight of the season. In January, both Varsity and JV hit the road for a competitive tournament in Stewartville, offering valuable mat time and team bonding. For our youth wrestlers, the season extends to Rochester with the NYWA and MN/USA State Tournaments, providing an exciting opportunity to test their skills against top competition from across Minnesota. These trips are more than just wrestling—they're about teamwork, growth, and creating experiences that go far beyond the mat. Make sure to book in the room blocks and come cheer our wrestlers on!
